How Car Rental Bonds Work
12 September 2026
A security bond shows up on every vehicle listing alongside the weekly rent, and it's one of the most common questions before someone submits a request. Here's what it actually is and how it works.
What is a security bond?
It's a refundable amount held against the vehicle for the length of your rental, separate from the weekly rent itself - it's not an extra fee, and it's not the same thing as the $50 booking-confirmation payment. The exact bond for each vehicle is shown on its own listing before you enquire, never added or changed after the fact.
Why does the bond amount vary by vehicle?
It scales with the vehicle's value and category - as real current examples, a 2020 Toyota Aqua Hybrid carries a $500 bond, while a larger 2026 Toyota Kluger Hybrid or Kia Carnival carries a $700 bond. There's no single flat bond across the whole fleet, so always check the specific listing rather than assuming a figure from a different vehicle applies.
How and when is the bond refunded?
Refund terms are set out in our rental agreement, which you're shown before any payment is taken. Bond handling isn't something we invent case by case - it follows the same written terms for every renter.
Does the bond get charged before I've been approved?
No - no online payment is taken just to submit a request. Pricing, including the bond, is confirmed directly with you by phone or WhatsApp once your request is reviewed, and payment only happens as part of that confirmed booking, not automatically at enquiry stage.
