Five seats or seven

The Outlander is one of the few mid-size SUVs offered with a small third row, which makes it a flexible choice for a family that usually needs five seats but sometimes carries extra children. When the third row is not needed, folding it gives back cargo space. Some Outlanders are five-seaters, so check the seat count on the listing before you book.

Running costs

The Green Vehicle Guide lists the Outlander 2.4-litre petrol with the CVT automatic, across ES, LS and Exceed grades listed from 2016, at 7.2 L/100km combined in both five- and seven-seat forms. The newer generation with a 2.5-litre engine, released in 2021, is listed at 7.5 to 8.1 depending on grade and seating. Both engines are listed on regular 91 RON unleaded. Fuel use rises with a full load of passengers and luggage.

Practical points

  • Third row: suited to children; adults will find it cramped on anything but short trips.
  • Diesel versions: some 2015–2021 Outlanders have a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel, listed at 6.2 L/100km combined. The listing shows the fuel type.
  • Plug-in versions: this hub covers the petrol and diesel Outlander. The Outlander PHEV plug-in hybrid is a different car.
  • Rideshare: a seven-seat Outlander seats six passengers, but whether a specific car meets Uber's requirements depends on its age, rating and Uber's current rules.

Renting one

Each listing shows the Outlander's year, seats, weekly rent and bond. We accept P-plates for the rental itself (Uber asks its drivers for a full licence held 6 months), and pickup is from Dandenong South.
